PULLMAN, Wash. - Former Washington State University men's basketball student-athlete, Brock Motum, has been selected to participate with the NBA's Philadelphia 76ersin the 2013 Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League (OPSL), which takes place on the Orlando Magic's practice court at the Amway Center July 7-12, the organization announced Tuesday.
In addition to the 76ers and host Magic, the 25-game, six-day event will also feature the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz. A native of Brisbane, Australia, Motum is joined on the 76ers' Summer League roster by two other former Pac-12 men's basketball student-athletes in Justin Holiday of Washington, who spent the last season in the NBA, signing with the 76ers in April, and Arsalan Kazemi of Oregon who was taken by Washington as the 54th overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft before having his rights traded to Philadelphia.
The other rookies on the team include Michael Carter-Williams of Syracuse (the 11th overall pick in the 2013 draft), D.J. Cooper of Ohio, Michael Eric of Temple, Zeke Marshall of Akron, Trevor Mbakwe of Minnesota, James Southerland of Syracuse, Rodney Williams of Minnesota and Khalif Wyatt of Temple. The other second-year players are Travis Leslie and Arnett Moultrie.
Motum, a 6-foot-10 forward finished his senior season in 2012-13 leading the Pac-12 in scoring for the second-straight year with 18.7 points per game, while ranking fourth in the league in conference games only with 17.4 points per league game. He scored at least 11 points in all 32 games this season and reached double-figure scoring in 32-straight games. With 6.3 rebounds per game, Motum ranked 16th in the conference, while he was fifth in minutes played with 35.3 minutes per game. He had 5 double-doubles during the 2012-13 season, including in two in his three final games.

In WSU's final regular season game, Motum moved into fifth on the WSU all-time career scoring list and finished his career with 1,530 points. Motum's 597 points this season ranks sixth on the single-season list. This past season Motum also became just the 12th Cougar to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds in his career as he has 539 career rebounds. Motum was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week both Dec. 10 and March 11.
Last season Motum was named the Pac-12 Most Improved Player and first team All-Pac-12. This past year he became the ninth Cougar to earn second team all-conference honors as it marked the 14th time a WSU student-athlete has earned the accolades. He joined Jim McKean, Don Collins and Kyle Weaver as the four Cougars to earn both first team and second team all-conference honors in their careers. WSU has had a representative on one of the first two all-conference teams each of the last seven seasons. Motum was also named to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Teams in March.
A new format will be introduced to the OPSL this summer, with two extra teams and an extra day added to the slate. Under the new format, each team will play five games with a championship game being played on the final day of the league. A point system will establish the standings leading up to the final day, with seven points awarded each game based on: three points for winning the game and one point for winning a quarter (in the event of a tied quarter, each team will receive 0.5 points). In the event of ties in seeding heading into championship day, three tiebreakers will be in place; 1) total point differential; 2) total points allowed; 3) coin flip.
The 76ers open OPSL against the Houston Rockets, Sunday, July 7 at 6 a.m. PT (9 a.m. ET). They conclude round robin action against the Orlando Magic, Thursday, July 11 at 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET). Due to space limitations, the event is not open to the public and will be open only to credentialed media and professional team/league personnel.
