Abdul Qadir given show-cause notice for criticising the national team ? Cricket News Update
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sent a show-cause notice to Abdul Qadir, following the former leg-spinner?s criticism on the national team after their defeat in the semi-final of the ICC World T20 2012 against Sri Lanka at Colombo.
The 57-year-old former cricketer is presently on the PCB?s payroll, being the bowling coach in the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Lahore.
Abdul Qadir appeared on a private sports channel in Pakistan as an expert during the mega event. The former leg-spinner was not hesitant in slamming some of the board?s policies and the Green shirts? showing in the illustrious competition.
The legendary cricketer, who gave a new life to the art of leg-spin bowling in the 1980s, is shocked to see the board sending him a notice as he had taken approval before working for the television channel.
The great spinner expressed that he will reply to the show-cause notice very soon as he was not in Lahore (his hometown) during the tournament, the channel being operated from Karachi.
"I was surprised by the notice because before accepting the offer to sit as an expert on the channel, I had sought permission from the board and also informed them," Qadir said. "The board sent me the notice while I was in Karachi.?
Abdul Qadir represented Pakistan in 67 Tests and 104 One Day Internationals from 1977 to 1993, picking up almost 350 scalps at the game?s ultimate stage. The former player is considered to be one of the best slow bowlers produced by the country, who had immense control over his leg-spinners, googlies and flippers.
As per a senior official in the PCB, the legendary cricketer is upset over the board?s behaviour and believes that his criticism on the team should have been taken positively as it was intended towards the betterment of the sport in the country.
"He feels that when the team performed badly and no one could avoid making some critical comments. These should be taken in a positive manner instead of making a fuss about it," the source said.
It must be noted that Pakistan?s Test and ODI skipper, Misbah-ul-Haq and former captain, Younis Khan also worked on different television channels during the tournament as experts.
